By: Andrew Neal Jenkins

With over 600 wineries throughout Washington State, it’s fair to say there’s a little bit of competition (understatement of the day) in Washington’s wine industry. It’s probably also fair to say that combined, these 600+ wineries have made thousands of delicious and affordable wines available to consumers.

So my question to you the winemaker is – how do you expand your market share in this highly competitive environment? How exactly do you entice more customers to visit your tasting room, join your wine club and most importantly, buy stuff? Let’s discuss five things you can start doing immediately to expand your market share:

  1. Fill the holes in your current digital presence. Don’t let customers glance over your web design without giving them an opportunity to buy, signup, follow, etc. Create and test CTAs throughout your website in order to find what works best.
  2. Note the digital strengths and weaknesses of your competitors. Your competitors have left a digital footprint that can be tracked. Look deeper into the things that have made them either more or less successful than you are currently.
  3. Work with the end in mind. Write out a list of realistic goals and keep them accessible to everyone on your team. When everyone knows where the ship is headed they’ll work together to get there sooner rather than later.
  4. Communicate your USPs. Use your best unique selling points to connect with your audience and find a way to communicate each across your platforms (e.g. social, web design, web content, online advertising).
  5. Focus on moving the needle one percentage point at a time. You can save yourself some major heartburn by creating a long-term marketing strategy and segmenting the to-do’s into small digestible chunks.

Okay, so I’ve got good and bad news. The bad news is that this is a difficult process when resources are limited. Planning, following through and executing each step requires time, dedication and expertise. The good news is that Clocktower Media can do all of this and more!
