Coordinating Social Media

We’ve mentioned in passing a few tips on how to integrate different social media websites, but here we’ll give it a little more attention and some pointed tips on how to have your different social media campaigns interact.
Links, Links, and more Links
When it comes to online marketing it is very hard to have too many links. The beauty of a link is that it is unobtrusive. If the reader wants more information, they can click the link, if not they won’t. As we discussed in our blog on Twitter (http://www.clocktowermedia.com/blog/view/twitter-101-chapter-4-things-you-should-tweet), posting links on Twitter can be effective and is common practice. It is much the same on Facebook. Peruse through Facebook sometime and you will see that everyone sends each other links of funny videos, pictures, heartwarming snippets, and anything else that they find interesting. In these two forms of social media, everyone leaves links, so it should be simple for you do it as well. Create a link on your website for both your Twitter feed and your Facebook page. Link Twitter to your Facebook, and link Facebook to Twitter. You should also use links in your blogs. This is the one area people often forget to use links. It’s tempting to just write mass amounts of text without ever linking anyone to any other sources. While it’s not bad to just write text, people will be more interested when there are links, and often you can benefit from linking people to your website, Twitter feed, or Facebook page.

Be Original

Each social media outlet should perform a specific purpose, and while they may overlap, they should not be carbon copies of each other. Resist the temptation to copy all of your Twitter posts as Facebook status updates. And never post all of your blog content on your Facebook page. If you just publish the same information three times, why would anyone follow all three? They wouldn’t. While the rule of thumb is that each outlet should be original and provide your customer with something different, there are times when you will repeat information. Sometimes something really big happens in your company and it’s worth mention three or four times. If that’s case, just make sure to word it differently so people don’t feel like they are being spammed.

There are obviously other ways to integrate social media marketing campaigns but these are a few simple suggestions to get you started.
